Did you know diamonds are weighed in carats because the ancient Carob seed is unusually consistent at 1/2000 of a gram? I didn't. Lots of interesting and informative nuggets like that. Like how an Israeli cartel tried to usurp De Beers and how it panned out. Worth a read.

It just occurred to me that if you liked that essay you would probably enjoy this book by Michael Lewis about high frequency trading on Wall Street https://archive.org/details/hsb.eng.021

It's a bit more of a commitment to read, probably take a day, but it's the same kind of thoroughly researched and economically written insight into an expensively and purposefully hidden part of our economy.

Agreed. I wasn't sure about sharing it for the obvious reasons, but it's just a good piece of journalism in it's own right, and meets the criteria for 'interesting' in my view.
