Water will do that, pour water into a ~2000C furnace and it will boil almost instantly creating an explosion, significantly worse than throwing water on an oil fire.

Kind of like how you need to be careful of what type of rocks you line your fire pit with. If those rocks have water trapped inside of them; you're going to have a bad time.
