I’m new to living in the country. I see so many different insects. What is this? I am clearing brush and this was climbing on my truck. There was another one on the other side. Seems like some kind of snail or slug or something? Again, I’m from the city. I know nearly nothing about outdoor stuff.

That's a caterpillar. They eat your garden and then become butterflies.

This is what I’m being told but I guess I’ve just never seen one that wasn’t spikey.

They aren't all spikey. Maybe half of them. There are lots of different species.
