I’m new to living in the country. I see so many different insects. What is this? I am clearing brush and this was climbing on my truck. There was another one on the other side. Seems like some kind of snail or slug or something? Again, I’m from the city. I know nearly nothing about outdoor stuff.

not all varieties have spikes.

Might be a white cabbage butterfly caterpillar. There's some really great "what's that insect" type of sites. what's that bug (whatsthatbug.com) I've used this one for years.

It bug.

Indeed. Apparently is a caterpillar. I didn’t know they came in a spineless variety which is why I was wondering.

A stowaway!

As long as it’s not a spider. That’s something I’ve not gotten used to and probably never will. I’m a total faggot around bugs.

That's a caterpillar. They eat your garden and then become butterflies.

This is what I’m being told but I guess I’ve just never seen one that wasn’t spikey.

They aren't all spikey. Maybe half of them. There are lots of different species.

I had one fall out of a tree and down the front of my shirt. I immediately began itching and in less than five minutes my bosom and belly were covered in huge welts. It didn't last long, but it sure was creepy.
