Stings of paper wasps and cow killers are worse, but yellow jackets make up for it with sheer volume. The house I grew up on would have at least one new underground nest a year. Every summer I'd find the nests by mowing over them. Same result every time: Stinging, screaming, stripping, and running to the house. Wait an hour for the pain to subside some, then return with gasoline and matches.
