Another interesting stat:
49% of speeding drivers involved in fatal crashes in 2017 were not wearing seat belts.
Hmm... So that means that 51% of the fatalities were wearing seat belts. Wouldn't that mean you are more likely to die if you are wearing a seat belt and less likely if you are not?
Maybe the seatbelts invite more risky driving? Tough one to call.
I'd wager this is the case. Pair that along with the knowledge that 87% of speed-related accidents are NOT interstate and that the majority of accidents happen within a mile of one's home. We get more complacent the more seemingly safe we think we are.
