Already, chatbots, or “virtual agents,” are handling basic tasks like password resets or balance updates.

Security might put an end to this. LLMs do not think. They do not know what is reality and what is not. They do not know anything. They are beyond gullible. People are still having a great time getting ChatGPT to violate its hidden pre‐prompt and do things it is not supposed to. They could start doing the same thing on the phone with these automated customer service agents. Once you know how to prompt the AI agent you can get it to do anything for you; mark your account balance as paid, let you take over someone else’s account, whatever a rogue customer service agent could do.

There are some customer service jobs you can safely let an AI do though. As it says, you can have AI assist real agents.

This next part made me laugh.

More complex, revenue-driven interactions — like sales calls, which require relationship building — could increasingly shift to India if those skills are further strengthened, said Richards, the outsourcing consultant.

“A customer may still want to talk to somebody and get some reassurance,” said Prasanth, the Teleperformance executive. “That human emotion is not going to go away.”

Back at the company’s call center in Gurgaon, that sentiment was echoed by Sagar Rana, a 23-year-old customer service agent. “AI can never have the human touch,” he said.

Even if you disguise their accents a bunch of narcissistic idiots will never achieve that “human touch” that a sane, intelligent White person will respond to. I’d rather talk to an AI.

And more importantly, will the AI bot be able to do the needful?

Clearly it will have to as the Indians simply cannot. That is why they keep asking the White man to do the needful.

Seriously. Like 2 months ago I had a pajeet ask me to do the needful on something that was assigned to them, on a different team, in a different division of the company. I deleted the email and ignored them. I re-assigned the ticket to them with a description of "wrong team".

Technically, you did the right thing. "Do the needful" means "Do what you think is appropriate for the situation" and you did so.

They tried to ping me on company-chat and asked for the correct team.

I blocked/muted them. I felt that was a reasonable action.
