If we really want to nitpick the grammar in that section of the constitution, it also talks about who is eligible for presidency.

The strictest, most grammatically correct reading would leave no one eligible because you would have to reside in the US before the adoption of the constitution. Read it. Commas bitches.

Then you consider that they may have not intended the Constitution to live as long as it has and maybe that comma choice wasn't a mistake.


No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.
