I think it's a mistake to grant it to everybody to begin with. There are men that shouldn't be allowed to vote, too, a lot of men, who also happen to be citizen.
No argument there. Thing is, in a country where all registered adults possess the right with which to vote, it isn't a right that said population will be inclined to easily surrender unless believing they're receiving something of comparable worth and value in exchange.
