If many posts are made in a day, then these post should be scaled down.

IMO there are lot of low value posts being made to gain points.

I am of two opinions here. Either these points matter or they don't. I guess it really doesn't matter, but if the community feels these points do matter than I feel that this correction should be made.

*** I wonder who is down voting all my comments in this thread lmao... sad!

I think comments are a good signal of value. Comments are real interaction.

It is a good idea to play that into a point algorithm.

Welcome to reddit!

You seem to be very fixated on points. Why not just post? Start up some subs? This place needs content, not people trying to limit content, thus driving people to voat or reddit.

[–] 0 pt

It's ridiculous that you are calling my contribution to this site into question.

[–] 2 pts

I agree.

However even comments in threads worthy of attention are lacking on Poal.

[–] 3 pts

Fair. It could be that people feel their input isn't worth much. I like comments on my posts a lot, but I figure I shouldn't comment much to others because they'd find it annoying/useless.

[–] 3 pts

I personally love comments, that is what draws discussion, which for me is the best part of a board like this.

[–] 1 pt

Disagree because this would induce people to make controversial or edgy comments. IMHO this is what's wrong with the rest of social media.

I believe that Poal is different because we are largely a group of people who enjoy community and congress with our little group and don't need to post edgy tripe willy nilly.

[–] 1 pt

That is a good point. It is very common on Reddit where the first and top comment is a lame joke about the content that anyone could have made.

You obviously haven't read mine!

I post things because 1) I can ... 2) I think someone other than myself will enjoy it. Yes, I have a ton of points, but that's because I'm retired, read a lot, and Poal provides me with a place to kill time and post things I read. I never have and never will post for points. They're worthless internet BS and mean almost nothing, especially here on Poal where they buy you no more functionality, privilege, or perks than a low point user, which is fine with me. So I'm not seeing a problem. Where am I wrong?

[–] 2 pts

I don't think anyone would accuse you of 'low value posts'. However, if I posted each of these as individual posts would they be?

I got what you're saying ... but not sure there's anything that can easily resolve it. I'm glad I'm not an admin - LOL

[–] 2 pts

Yes.

And I really don't mean it as a slight on @Madazzahat , but I'm using that as an example as how the point system can be gamed.

However, if I posted each of these as individual posts would they be?

If you properly posted them in a jokes sub or if you started up a dead baby joke sub, you'd be right on the money, wouldn't you? Your whining sounds like a redditer or voater trying to discourage posting here.

>Your whining sounds like a redditer or voater trying to discourage posting here.

Your friends here are too polite to call you out for your frequent low-value posts, but you attack them nonetheless? I take it for granted that you were the inspiration for the original post. If not then you well could have been.

Personally I don't think the points matter. I just like the colored names. We could even hide the actual points them selves so all you see is the posts ranked on the points without seeing the point totals. Either way, my name is blue now and I like it much more than the red.

[–] 3 pts

Yeah, the color code thingy is cool! Great innovation on Poal.

[–] 3 pts

I just like the colored names

The color-blind don't. You are so ableist I can't even.

[–] 2 pts

I just like the colored names.

It's ok, you can call them niggers...

[–] 1 pt

If the points don't matter then the colored names can't matter...

[–] 1 pt

the colored names can't matter...

It's ok, you're allowed to say nigger

[–] 1 pt

This made me laugh, unfortunately it was while I was drinking some tea and now I'm wearing said tea.

[–] 1 pt

I'm not saying they matter. I'm saying I like the color blue more than red. Fuck we can all have blue names for all I care. Delete the points at the end of every month and we all start over. I just want a blue name.... Even the beginner color blue would work for me

[–] 1 pt

Delete the points

Or just eliminate up/downvotes all together

[–] 1 pt

@Madazzahat turning red made me realize this. No offense to the user.

[–] 2 pts

I'm in this for the content, not the points. No fun staring at the same stories for hours, days on end.

[–] 1 pt

And I'm not doubting you, but the fact that you have achieved a level 30 status by posting a majority of low value jokes draws the ranking system into question.

Not sure if you're advocating shutting down a joke sub, but here's a thought, post something funnier.

[–] 2 pts

He's a chode.

This is tough. On one hand, people are bringing in content in exchange for fake points which is a hell of a deal. On the other, it would be cool to incentivize people that post less frequently or put more effort into each post. So maybe a solution would be to reward infrequent participants instead of punishing the spammers.

Also I blocked s/jokes a long time ago. If I want to cringe-laugh I'll go spend time out in clown world
