The Top 5 posts is a very useful tool. But too short. The Top 10 posts would be perfect for checking best posts fast.

"Today's Top 5" is a preview of /all/hot, just open that endpoint and you'll see them there with all the rest of the daily top posts.

Can we have a "Here are Five Classics" button, which will show you five highly upvoted posts/comments from over a year ago?

1488 Poalbucks.

jk, make it a post, I’ll add it to the todo list.😉

Neat, I actually think it is a good idea instead of my usual brain-snot

Interestingly, while it is supposed to be just the top 5 hottest on all/hot, two of Today's Top 5 aren't even on the first page of all/hot:

pure love: https://poal.co/s/memes/530360 After a couple of years on Poal everywhere I go I see them: https://poal.co/s/Pics/530365

Those are both on page 2.

One of the 5 is the Happy Birthday Poal sticky.

The other two left that are on the first page of all/hot are listed as first and third hottest on the page, but listed as fourth and fifth in the Today's Top 5 list with the two that aren't even on page 1 being above them.

Because that's how the algorithm works.

They were both posted 21 hours ago, and posts older than 18 hours start to decay and get pushed down the hot list to give priority to news rising posts.

One of the 5 is the Happy Birthday Poal sticky.

A global sticky post isn't in the Top 5 list because it's a sticky, but because of its score. So if you wait long enough, it will be gone from the Top 5 list, but will still remain in /all/hot.

Thank you for that info on how the top 5 is determined and the nature of how all/hot sorts...hottness. I understand it better now.

I did not state the sticky was in the top 5 due to being a sticky, just that it is in the top 5 and is also the sticky. I did not mean for it to be read that way, but noted it being the sticky as an identifier of that being the thread I was talking about being in the top 5.

It took months to fine tune the algorithm to adapt to the increase of user base (and thus votes). I believe 18 hours is a fair share of exposure before posts give a way for newer ones.
