it should be tied to upvotes on the comments you make. I have a very complex thing that i need to write a white paper for. maybe rhyt could help me. i wish we had go1dfish to help. i don't know how much time aou has, and i think there is another dev. I have almost no time and my idea is complex and isn't too important on voat because aou clears out the crap and we are small and for the most part aligned on almost everything.

I'll try to write up something more specific, but the tl;dr is correlated voting so that what you see as the votes, or what controls hotness, gives more weight to people you vote like. It might sound like an echo chamber, but it would be resistant to many attacks and if it was perfect you would see something like "if everyone on the site was aou, what would the voting for current posts look like?"

We’ve have had a Fuck You button planned for trolls/glowniggers, but never had time to roll it out.

Subsidized comments?

Do comments already determine what is on the Hot list? Maybe that could have more weight to create visibility of discussions. Or, perhaps another Hot category for discussion generation.

I like where this goes, but worry about creating an economy for even less thoughtful comments (of which I am certainly guilty some times)

Just a thought. There seems to be a dearth of comments in some threads that are pretty damn interesting. Granting the option of an additional upvote may encourage users to participate more. As for the badges / tags, they add a uniqueness to Poal that other boards lack. But I live in fear of logging on and seeing a happy merchant smiling at me from next to my name. lol
