You already get an automatic upvote on every submission (since the posts start with a score of 1 as opposed to comments that start with 0), however that upvote cannot be undone and is not counted toward your score.

On the latest diff of throat that auto-upvote is now properly stored in the database, it counts toward your score and can be undone
