This way I could @!PDLP which would be equivalent to @Professor_de_la_Paz and he would get a mention.

This way for users like Professor_de_la_Paz whose names are basically another holocaust to type can be given a nickname by users of high enough account standing. Have a separate flag @! to prevent from username / nickname collisions. This way I could @!PDLP which would be equivalent to @Professor_de_la_Paz and he would get a mention.

Not gonna happen. It's a waste of resources (queries will have to be made every single time someone will type @ in textarea).
