If I have someone blocked they can't reply to me - great, whatever. But I should not be able to reply to them either, baiting them into looking foolish / cowardly by not replying.

It was perfectly fine the way it was. People could respond and you didn't see it. It didn't shut down conversations. The issue with someone being able to reply to you 20 times and you not seeing it wasnt really an issue because it didn't actually stop you from replying. This feature does and it's whack
