Rather than outright blocking a sub, what if you could just nerf it instead? You could have a dropdown over the 'block sub' button, with options like 'block', 'nerf 25%', 'nerf 50%' 'nerf 75%'. (block would remain default option; the nerf percentages don't have to reference actual values, but just the general feel of their strength)

By nerfing a sub, you'd increase the threshold for votes/time needed to be ranked on poal.co/hot (if both nerfing and subscribed) and all/hot. You'd also still be able to see the sub's content if you navigated to the sub itself, providing a way to see "less.

You could use this to optimize your feed in order to see a good representation of different subs on the first page. (Hobby subs and niche subs, for example, rarely pop up in hot owing partly to a large influx of users who only upvote content in /s/politics.) Or to just basically ignore a sub until something pretty big comes along.

I would probably lightly nerf subs like Politics, News, and Funny in order to give content from smaller subs higher priority. I'd probably also nerf subs like QStorm and WSB, because I'm interested in big events happening with them or controversies in their communities, but not really anything else.

Maybe it would also pave the way to a "buff" feature. Or a nerf feature for users!

Might be, but our admins are very resourceful. Even if it is, I have a solution:

Perhaps the feature would be available only to users who have donated to the site.

@AOU Another great idea.
