Thanks.

We don’t have to agree, but

Proceeds to give a justification regarding technical backend or intelligent design.

This didn't happen, so it is strange that you are claiming I did so.

Not all thumbnails are from image posts. What do you do with that?

If it’s a logo for a site or thumbnail for an article, it would go to that site or article. If it’s an image post, it leads to the image. If it’s a generic discussion icon, one may reasonably expect it would lead to the discussion.

These would be consistent behaviors.

If it’s a...thumbnail for an article, it would go to that site or article. If it’s an image post, it leads to the image.

How do you differentiate between the two then? Why would a thumbnail have a different behavior based on the type of post?

You disagree with how poal's thumbnail works (it's unified for all type of posts) and on the other hand you agree for a thumbnail that would cause confusion for users with unpredictable behavior since you can't differentiate the two (image or website link).

That's what the expando button is for here. You know right away what type of post you are about to open in the expando, without leaving poal.

Between an article and an image? It wouldn’t. For a non-link post, it would go to the thread because there is nowhere else to go.

I am not arguing for this at all. This is the second comment in a row this has happened. In short:

It is clearly a quirk (and unexpected) to click on an image and be sent to a commentary thread.
I think that what you are saying (expandos or lack thereof differentiating the type) is sensible.
What is not sensible UI design or intuitive is when clicking on an image takes one to a comment thread. Full stop.

Full stop.

Thanks for your interesting opinion.
