Yes and no. He conquered and ruled over one of history's largest empires and he killed a massive amount of people doing it. But he only genocided people who he felt gave him cause by not surrendering. He tolerated different peoples and religions with aplomb as long as they would accept his sovereignty.
isn't that true for all the great empires tho?
alexander teh gr8, the romans after him, etc....they all conquered but only plundered excessively when they were opposed. otherwise you could just lay down arms and they'd like build a road or something.
