Riding is very enjoyable.
Fuck the gear and the helmet, just get on and go
That's my conclusion too, if I ever owned one I'd get an old 1940s model that's meant for slower, less-traveled roads and fuck the safety gear.
I don't enjoy riding in a lot of traffic but once I'm out on a hwy or a winding back road that's when I'm happy I have one.

When you're a teen ager riding motorcycles are the bomb!
They make noise, they accelerate fast and they're nimble. When you reach a certain age, the noise, the bumps, the wind, the other drivers, the seats and hand grips suck compared to riding inside a sealed air conditioned cabin.
And then if you have a mishap..
Guy I used to work with hit a deer at 70mph on a frontage road. Body crushed, vegetative state in hospital until death a month later or so
Horrible. Makes me not wanna ride (and I'd love to, but not gonna risk it).
Seems like an unnecessary life risk, if anything. Kinda like jumping out of a plane “for fun.”
