Baa! makes nice parallel tracks

It's been approximately three weeks since I installed and completed the teach-in of our i215 LiDAR. Took about an hour and a half, all told. We named it 'Baa!' like the sheep's sound (Well, the German equivalent).

Since then, it's completed 5000 square meters of mowing in appx. 12 sessions. It got stuck on the second run on some spindly green growth support stalks around our grow house, before I taught it an exclusion zone for that. Since then, no interventions needed at all. The RTK GPS is astonishingly accurate and the thing is pretty smart about how it plans its paths.

It supports several zones with individual parameters but I created a single large zone and so far, so good. I reduced the mowing height step by step and it's now 35mm, which is probably the practical limit for our lawn and its bumps, furrows and warts. Probably going to go back to 40mm but todays result sure looks nice.

It first goes around the outer zone limits two or three times and then starts doing parallel tracks over the bulk of the area. When it encounters an exclusion zone, it does the same go-around routine, then continues filling in more area. It changes the direction of the parallel tracks every time so it doesn't create permanent furrows.

We have some pretty steep climbs and sometimes, depending on the angle of attack, it loses traction on one of the wheels but so far it has always been smart enough to recover and continue on.

The video and audio track combination was a happy accident. Transferring the file from my phone to the Laptop took a long time (Turns out it got stuck and I had to repeat) and I got bored and started another video with the audio you're hearing here. Suddenly the mower video started while the other audio still played. It always blows me away how much the character of a video scene changes with the audio.

The electric sheep.

Maybe we're all just in an android's dream.

If so, I want a word with that sick fuck.

I'm not putting music to my robo mower videos. lol,, My mower would have ran through that hole and if those are your wifes plants in there they would be mulch. lol

Like I said, the music thing was a happy accident. Transferring the mower video from the mobile phone took some time and while I was faffing around in the browser, two videos started to play at once. The result gave me a chuckle, so I replaced the original boring audio track. Glad you approve :)

This is the video where the music is from: https://vid8.poal.co/user/webrustler/yUpF0ab

I'm sure your tank would have probably pulverized the steel reinforced concrete ring and the metal grating of my grill. I like it better when the mower avoids obstacles, but that's just me.

The grill was featured in an earlier post. https://poal.co/s/Poalfood/799617 It just has some detritus and twigs in it rn, until later today when I get a fire going.

But seriously, you must mount a remote controlled turret on the Lymow. You know you want to...

BTW, I like the one featured here, also a model with tracks https://poal.co/s/cybersecurity/802087 Edit: After watching this comparison, the Lymow is the clear winner for me. https://youtu.be/XqqLi13yGR0

Me too, it's a work on progress. I think the cameras don't work correctly. After a few emails back and forth they have decided to send me a replacement.

I went back and forth with the Lymow and the Yarbo. What made my decision was the lymow was half the price and I don't get snow in Texas. I am thinking of getting a Yarbo for my WA place though. Its much larger and we do get snow.

I'd try and wait for their next version that's mentioned in the video. Did not expect that both Lymow and Yarbo are from a kickstarter campaign.

My other property is so far out in the sticks, its "Where we're going, we don't need no pavement, Marty". It'll remain on manual snow clearing for the foreseeable future. Thankfully my brother lives there and maintains that aspect, but every time I tried to sell it to him for one Dollar (Euro), he refused. I'd much rather wash my hands of it all but I understand he doesn't want to go it alone. I wouldn't either.

What’s it cost?

Also why not go fill that hole?

It was €1200 including the optional little garage.

You might recognize the "hole" from this earlier post: https://poal.co/s/Poalfood/799617

I see. I’d mail you some bricks to border it with…but then they would think we are antifa.

:) Thanks but no bricks needed. There's a steel reinforced concrete ring embedded flush in the lawn with a large air channel underground to provide ventilation like in a forge. When not in use, the intake is covered with a plastic lid. It's one of those manhole grade rings, example: https://www.starprecast.com/manhole-grade-ring/

The mower is quite smart and precise regarding obstacle avoidance. It never drives into the grill because it's defined as an exclusion zone on the map. Follows what I taught it within a fraction of an inch.
