We've been getting raw milk from our farmer friend for years now. It's delicious - but also sporadic as he offers it to his family first and foremost, and we are among the people he calls when he has some extra. We wanted to start 2025 out by getting a more regular supply.

https://getrawmilk.com/ is a service to link up people with raw milk to supply, to purchasers who want to buy it.

In our cowshare, we bought a "portion" of a cow for a one time fee of $60. Then, we pay $60/month to help raise, feed, board and care for the cow. In exchange, we get 1 gallon (two 1/2 gallon jars) of the good stuff per week. We have a scheduled pick up day each week. It's quite a distance for us to drive to pick up (~30 miles) but my wife is very willing to do so, so we're giving it a try. We just finished the first two jars and it's great stuff.

Not sure if any other Poalrs have cows or cow shares, but if you have not tried raw milk (and you're a fan of milk), maybe it's something to consider!

Edit: They also sell beef, vacusealed in individual cuts as well as 1/4 and 1/2 cow allotments. And beef bones for my wife to make stock!

That's really cool. Some states have very recently made it legal to buy raw milk again (we all know there were loopholes and the gov is a pita).

Having your own cow(s) can be hard. They can produce several GALLONS a day so it makes a lot of sense to share/sell/etc. Even goats produce far more than you would expect.

Do you do anything else with it? Do you make cheese or butter/etc? I took a class on making goat cheese. It was fun and we used raw milk as the instructor had a loophole to get around the bs. It was really good cheese though.

Yeah a cow makes way too much for us, and it makes more sense to buy it from a small dairy. Plus you cant have just a single cow, its a whole process involving multiple cows to produce milk. We've made butter and cheese before, but right now just enjoying liberally filled glasses of milk with some cookies. I dont know that I've tried goat milk or cheese. My wife says it can be stinky so I never get it.
