We planted this garlic last fall. We might have harvested a little early but it still looks great. My wife wants to grow some hard neck garlic next year so it can look nicer hanging.

Ha. I just came here to say “you picked it too early”. I’ve been growing “German music” soft neck variety for the past 2 years. I’m sure seed garlic is going to be priced insane this fall. It was last year. I’ve grown hard necks a couple of times. For the past 3 years I’ve grown our garlic in raised beds, but next year I’m switching to 10gal fabric pots. Question: why are you hanging them upside down? I’ve always cured mine outside hanging the other way.

I think either way is fine with proper ventilation. I will probably move them away from the wall a little more.

You have to hang them upside down so the nutrients flow into the leaves.

Oh that’s not right. (Double down left handed rebound sarcasm)

Congrats on your harvest!

Hot tip if you can grow garlic you can also grow tumeric and ginger.

Best thing about growing garlic is that the pests don't eat it, and it keeps the pests away from the surrounding plants as well.

Nice, wish I could get mine to grow that big. I'm in southern Arizona and growing things here is hard because of the heat. Even in shade 100-115F does damage. The green onions do great as well as all pepper and citrus.

citrus

I would love to have a fresh ripe orange.

Nice I have a huge patch of garlic. Going to harvest in the fall. Next year I'm going to plant elephant garlic.

Oh man I know that kind of garlic and it's really good! Very strong.

Very cool. Try some elephant! That could look cool plus it’s lots of garlic.

We are definitely going to expand for next year. Probably we will do three beds instead of one.

I need to try growing garlic. A super food indeed. And delicious. Hopefully we are all here to see what you share next year. Good luck!

Do it. Or at least something. We are getting pretty good at growing things, but that is with 7 years of experience and preparation. Our parents did not teach us this stuff.

I'm on year 3 of self taught gardening. It's crazy how much you can learn year after year.

Nice! I need to get out and harvest mine. We planted a few varieties this year so I'm hoping for some fun new dishes. Have you made garlic scape salt? I'd recommend that if you're growing your own supply.

Have you made garlic scape salt?

Nope. Sounds good though.

Cut the scapes off the garlic when they curl into a loop. Dry them out and throw them first in a food processor, then powderize them in mortar and pestle with salt. Fantastic topping to a lot of things.

We have some scapes in the dehydrator right now. Looking forward to trying some.

You can make an extremely good pesto with the scapes as well as a sub for anywhere you would use guacamole. It's a great topping for eggs, mash potatoes, steak, etc.

Nice! how many cloves per what we see here?

Each of those bundles has about 12...around 100 bulbs altogether.
