I received several huge double-pane glass windows for FREE and now I want to turn them into solar heaters for my workshop. There are several different methods used online, but here are the main ones I'm seeing -

  1. Lining up aluminum soda cans painted black as the heater cells.

  2. Using metal gutter downspouts as the main heater cells and stuffing them with aluminum cans.

  3. Using aluminum fabric or screen as the heating element without any other material.

Anyone try one of these projects and have words of advice to share?

They worked out well enough. You can actually get black PVC that you wont have to paint. It was contained in a large "box" with one side being glass/plexi (that would probably cost the most). Ill try to find some links for how they were built. I was very young when my family was using them. This would have been back in the late 90's.
