I think in 1897 one of the NY papers had a story about potential jewish casualties in Europe if a war broke out. They came up with 6 million. That number was bandied about for nearly 50 years in various publications

They started saying that after the genocide after WW2 like in 1944. I also read that it was a million from disentary that died and then the red cross said there were only a million different not 6 million, right after the war. Just what I read is all.
