Hollywood often uses real guns instead of replicas or special props. This wasn't Baldwin being special.
With a lot of period revolvers, you'd have to eject each round separately to check if it wasn't live ammo, you can't look into the front of the cylinder or swing it out.
I'd be kind of paranoid about it and insist on loading it myself, but I can imagine Baldwin couldn't be arsed to do so, or that it would annoy the rest of the actors and crew.
In any case, IMO Baldwin is morally responsible, if not criminally so.
This same gun was being used for target practice on the site. The guy should check, it was his movie, his production, his responsibility. You don't point and shoot at someone. She was also u union rep whose members walked out.
