Many cultures have origin stories of "coming from a hole in the ground". The ancient prehistory migration theories all have major flaws and conflicting evidence.

Aliens is a stupid idea. Why would a species with the technological capabilities to traverse the stars come here, unless to conquer for resources (in which case they would do so), or because they are refugees(in which case they would come en masse). It makes no sense.

BUT, imagine, an event that drove humanoids underground, with some finding new routes out onto land and some staying or becoming trapped in vast cavern complexes. A oxygen producing bioluminescent algae or lichen (which exist) would provide food, extremely low light, and breathable atmosphere. Now imagine those humans evolving genetically and technologically in that setting.

They would lose hair and pigmentation. They would develop thicker skin and smaller frames with larger heads to fit through tight spaces and tunnels. They would develop larger eyes to capture as much light as possible. They would develop technologies based on magnetism and hovering as they would not have a sky for flight.

Now imagine that parallel civilization rediscovering the upper world. They would be hesitant and cautious. They would monitor us while trying to keep themselves hidden in fear of attack or retaliation. They would begin researching the upper world in secret to learn more about its species and environment. They would have small and seemingly alien technology best suited for their underground cave and tunnel systems, not interplanetary travel.

Hollow earth is real. Aliens are mole people.

I wonder how far underground we can penetrate with radar. If there were huge underground caverns close to the surface then we'd have found them by now.

Not far at all. We can barely see past topsoil. And I don't believe or disbelieve in ufos alien sightings etc. But IF the stories of aliens are true it makes infinitely more sense that they are terrestrial in nature than from outer space.

The late Mac Tonnies has a book called "Cryptoterrestrials" where he proposes an intelligent, Earth-indigenous species moved underground and may still reside there, as well as possibly being responsible for some or all of the events in our history that have been attributed to potentially being extraterrestrial life instead of this ancient terrestrial life.

Not the greatest thing ever written, but I thought it was a pretty good read for the subject.

"What if the "aliens" are not from other planets? In THE CRYPTOTERRESTRIALS, Mac Tonnies proposes that at least some accounts of alien visitation can be attributed to a humanoid species indigenous to the Earth, a sister race that has adapted to our numerical superiority by developing a surprisingly robust technology. At the same time, this groundbreaking work attempts to reconcile the mythological and contemporary accounts of "little people" into a coherent picture. "For too long, we've called them 'aliens, ' assuming that we represent our planet's best and brightest," writes Tonnies. "Maybe that's exactly what they want us to think.""

"“If evidence for the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis has failed to surface—despite decades of hard work and diligent investigations—then maybe we should consider the notion that we are looking for the answers in all the wrong places. Instead of looking up, maybe we should be looking around us. And, perhaps, even below us, too.” – From the Foreword by Nick Redfern"

"“This book is an honest pursuit of ideas that might lead to some greater understanding of the paranormal and the existence of an apparent non-human intelligence…Mac Tonnies cuts through much of the self-satisfied, bloated fundamentalist fat of the last 50 years with the deft touch of a surgeon and the encyclopedic knowledge of a veteran.” – From the Afterword by Greg Bishop"

"“The Cryptoterrestrials is the most refreshing speculation on the paranormal I've seen in ages. The ideas in this book will be harvested by science-fiction writers and TV shows like Fringe for decades. Even skeptics will have a great time reading this well written book of wild conjecture. Mac Tonnies' final Fortean landmark is the Book of the Damned for the 21st century. Fans of the paranormal: be there or be square.” – John Shirley, author of Bleak History"
