To simplify, it was convert or be conquered, executed, raped, castrated, enslaved, you get the idea. Again my personal take, that's why there's around a dozen Bibles for the Islamic religion. (There's the main one and then a bunch more that go with it.) The original and most coveted was not written in chronological order. Because it was written as the conqueror conquered and after his death.
