.30 carbine is a damn fine round. More punch than any hand gun cartridge, but mild enough for most household members to handle and fire safely and accurately. Shame that it's so damn expensive now. Besides shotguns, a good carbine is a great home/property defense weapon.
My brother has an old rifle. He reloads. We put some sabots into the reloads. Pretty awesome combo.
Absolutely. .30 carbine and .25 cal are two rounds I feel got shafted for no good reason. I lost a 9mm carbine in a boating accident, but can tell you that, while it was a fine carbine and accurate, I would have much preferred it in a stronger caliber. Closest o can think nowadays might be a .357 lever action, but again: not the same as a magazine fed carbine.
