When I was a kid, our TV worked in a similar fashion. I was the "remote control" up until my dad got a TV with one.

Many years ago my dad told me he set pins at a bowling alley for a while when he was a kid, must have been around 1947ish. I think what he described was more modern than these. I forgot all about that story until I saw this post!
