Interesting read, thank you. Symbolic book burnings really took place, although only on rare occasions. The two popular cases are the burning at the Opernplatz in 1933 (pic related) and the burning at the Wartburgfest in 1817 (as mentioned in the article).
The historic book burnings still are not at all comparable to Amazon's censorship etc.
