I guess it takes nickles and dimes too. I've only seen people throw quarters at it after asking the bartender for them.

That's commitment, standing there pumping 40 quarters into the cigarette machine. Much like standing in the self serve car wash pumping a fist full of quarters. They were around 50¢ a pack from vending machines back when I was a young teenager.
