  1. The German soldier is fighting with chivalry for the victory of his own people. Cruelty and senseless destruction are below the level of his own dignity.

  2. Combatants must be in uniform and equiped with a specially introduced emblem being visible from great distances. Fighting in civilian clothes without such emblem is prohibited.

  3. No adversary who surrenders must be killed, including partisans and spies. Thieves (Those) *** receive their just punishment by courts.

  4. Prisoners of war must not be mistreated or insulted. Weapons, maps and records have to be seized. Private property must not be taken away.

Natural resources or services from the native population must only be requested on order of the higher command and against appropriate recompensation.

  8. Neutral territory must not be drawn into combat activities, neither by flying over it, nor by stepping on it, nor by shooting at it.

  9. If a German soldier is taken prisoner he must state name and rank if being asked. Under no circumstances he must give away any information about his military troop assignment or about the military, political or economical situation of the German side. Neither by promises nor by threats he must let seduce himself to make those declarations.

  10. Violations of service duties under article 1 - 8 are punishable by law. Violations of those rules by enemy combatants must be reported. Retributive measures are only permitted on order of the Army High Command.
