If anyone has yet to do so, remedy that oversight and procure a copy of, "The Discovery And Conquest of Mexico" by Bernal Diaz Del Castillo. Conquistador Bro offers a first hand boots on the ground perspective of the wonders and horrors those Spanish boys found atop Templo Mayor and details the retributive justice of St. Micheal they unleashed to remove such savagery from this Good Earth.

It's an excellent primary source. As an added bonus, Spanish has changed so little over the centuries that translations are still superb and the original Spanish is quite readable.
