The Cultural Revolution was incredibly evil, and we havent learnt anything from it. Students literally dragged their parents out to be thrown onto fires...en masse. These werent limited events. People were pointing fingers at everyone, and if in doubt they just killed someone for the sake of it, and cried out "for the people". Then there were the tens of millions who died after, because of stupid policies that they were too afraid to complain about, lest they be deemed an ememy of the people and...you guessed it, killed. Even today, Chinese wont do anything in public to draw attention in fear that someone they upset is well connected in the Party, and they will be summarily punished. And, bringing us to today, everyone acted EXACTLY the same during covid (without the murders). People were all to willing to throw others under the bus just to appear as if they fit in. I was truly surprised by how few people in the community have balls. I assumed like one in 20 would have some nuts, but everyone is pathetic. Maybe 1 in 5000 is a true person who will stick to their morals and not be a pathetic piece of chicken shit. Everyone else folded immediately, and pretended they couldnt see what was happening, and they would do exactly the same today. It was only one more tiny step to the government saying "Point out your neighbours and relatives not following the rules and we will come take them away", and I guarantee it would have been a snowballing of exactly that. Yeh, so I've lost all faith in people.
