The diary part was most likely written or embellished heavily after the fact.
Personally, I think there was an Anne Frank, and I believe she had a diary....
But I don't believe that what we are presented with is more than like... a few pages of stuff actually written by her. Her father simply took those pages and elaborated on them to enrich himself using the death of his daughter. Maybe. Idk, now that I'm re-thinking this...
It's been so long since I've read it, I almost want to re-read it as an adult. When I read it, I was in my early teens IIRC- totally onboard and ready to trust/believe whatever teacher said. What details would jump out at me as an adult? What obvious nonsense will be plain to see with the eyes of a cynical man that a hopeful, naive boy would miss?
Great point. I read her Diary, Treblinka, Night, and a few others. It is just in the last decade I started to realize the lie, and the fact that the lie cannot be backed down from.
I remember reading it in grade school. At the time, it was just a book, but now the detail to which it was written sticks out - it's almost like it was supposed to draw your attention.
Style. Patterns. Memory. Read something over and over long enough. Youll be able to tell.
I don't know if I could get through it now. If the lies are obvious I'll feel so stupid and mad at myself and Whites in general for falling for the grift.
If the lies are insidious I'll have to choke down rage the whole time.
Either way it's a guaranteed bad time.
