§ IV. - THE CORRESPONDENCE OF MINISTERS OF CULTURE WITH FOREIGN COURTS OR POWERS, ON RELIGIOUS MATTERS.

ARTICLE 207. Any minister of a religion who has, on religious questions or matters, maintained a correspondence with a foreign court or power, without having previously informed the Minister of the Emperor, in charge of the supervision of religions, and without having obtained his authorization, will, for this fact alone, be punished with a fine of one hundred francs to five hundred francs, and imprisonment from one month to two years.

ARTICLE 208. If the correspondence mentioned in the preceding article has been accompanied or followed by other facts contrary to the formal provisions of a law or a decree of the Emperor, the guilty will be punished with banishment, unless the penalty resulting from the nature of these facts is no longer strong, in which case only this stronger penalty will be applied.
