British Freemasonry was deeply anti-Catholic and had no qualms accepting Jews as their fellow Protestant brother masons against the Papacy.

Although King George III of the House of Hannover was himself a Protestant, George was extremely fair towards all his subjects.

He abolished anti-Catholic laws in Great Britain and Ireland such as the Catholic relief Act of 1772 and 1774 which allowed Roman Catholics to have land leases in Great Britain.

These actions angered Freemasons throughout parliament but even more so the Jews of Britain who were skeptical of George from the day that he had become King. It did not help that he was only a 3rd gen Briton originally from Hannover, where the Jews had experienced repeated expulsions in those regions.

The term "Free White Person" was first used by Freemasons to describe the class of people whom they believed could successfully assimilate into the New American Republic.

It was often said:

"Can a German ever become white? He will always remain a Catholic at heart!"
