Kind of misses the point. Alcohol itself wasn't the medicine, it was the solvent used to extract the medicine from the herbs and etc. Makes the last point silly, alcohol isn't viewed as medicine these days because there isn't any medicine in it. Also, prohibitions against alcohol are almost as old as alcohol, buddah wrote against it, the muslims straight up banned it, aside from use to extract medicines and perfumes.

Alcohol can be used to retard pregnancy labor and can also nullify the effects of ethylene glycol ingestion, though sugars nullify that effect as well. If you want to poison someone with antifreeze do it with something excessively sweet.
