John Wayne was basically a good guy. He tried to live up to his screen image, which of course was impossible since his screen image was that of a larger-than-life hero. But he made the effort. He was an alcoholic, and when drunk he tended to get mean and violent. But you could do a lot worse if you picked him as your model in life.
