Classical liberalism is an evil ideology, nearly as evil as progressivism. It seeks to maximize personal freedom. The cost of personal freedom is order and community.

I disagree. Personal freedom and liberty are inaliable rights and are the greatest drivers of innovation and human evolutionary progress, maximizing them is a noble cause. Conversely, all conflict distills down to competition for scarce resources so "order" and "community" should always be viewed as temporary and subjective to those needs.

There is a balance to be had. The reason disorderly conduct, loitering and making excessive noise are illegal in nearly all places is because total personal freedom just means being an asshole. Your freedom to bang a drum at 3am ends when it keeps all of your neighbors awake. And it should. Classical liberalism undermines society by allowing the asshole with a drum to be an asshole.

You know what I don't like with that approach/mindset? Is that, it's just more of the same "we need somebody else to do the job for us". I don't think a political messiah, or a bunch of political prophets are the solution to our problems, I think it's vain and dangerous to solely wait for and rely on such savior(s) to solve our problems

I wrote to Mike gravel around 2004-6. He has always seemed like a very standup guy.

People should go back at look at the video of the democratic primaries where Mike Gravel called out Obama, Hillary, Biden .. all of those fuckers on stage. It was a very early primary and no one remembers.

In more recent times, he's endorsed Tulsi Gabbard. Despite his age, he was still way more coherent than Biden in every interview he gave towards the end of his life.

I've always had a deep admiration and respect for Mike Gravel. Rest in peace.
