The Polish - Lithuanian Commonwealth was a major force in Europe from 1395 until 1791. Their most famous leader was John Sobieski who commanded the armies fighting the Muslims and who saved Europe by defeating the Turks at The Battle of Vienna in 1683. I wish they could do it again.
