Every time they destroy a civilization a key part of the process is destroying history. They do this via taking over historical societies, museums, schooling, and the like. Then they "lose" key pieces, re-write books, remove evidence, and otherwise destroy whatever they can wherever they can. And yes, as stupid as it is, destroying statues is part of this. This falls under destroying historical art however.
