I'm not sure about the swine flu of 2009, but in 2014 I had both doctors and nurses explain to me that the media was using ebola and swine flu to scare people. They said it was for political reasons. I was volunteering at the hospital. This was their response when I asked them if I needed to wear a mask or be concerned. They said wearing a mask around the hospital wasn't necessary and to just take vitamin c if I was worried, but there wasn't any reason to be scared. Most of them took vitamin c during flu season anyway which is why they recommended it.
