Also worth mentioning that back when gun racks like that were common, so were single cab trucks. Now with most being ex cab or crew cab theres lots more room to put guns and gear making less of a need for a rack like that.

A bunch of illiterate lawn guys broke into my van to steal a stupid cassette tape back when they were a thing. I assessed the damage, (broken window and missing tape) and was pissed. I drove up to them still hanging out and told them what crap humans they were. One jumped up and tried to climb through my window so I took him for a ride, steered for a huge pothole and knocked him off. I watched him do summersaults on the pavement and then waited for police who examined my shotgun and had a good laugh as they handed it back to me.

Early 60s, small town CA. In the late spring, 7th 8th and 9th grade my friends and I would take our .22 rifles to school with us school, so that after school we would walk a few blocks out of town to shoot rabbits in the alfalfa fields. During classes we would leave them leaning against the wall in the teachers lounge.

In some districts in Russia the kids are run through drills to disassemble and reassemble rifles. Military version.

While Germany was teaching it's kids how to win wars the French were teaching their kids how to be nice.

My first truck looked like that except on the top was a fishing pole. The bottom had the shotgun, almost exactly like that one!

Something like this happened to me in Texas. Got pulled over by the cops for speeding 10 over. Cop said what's the rush told em I had to get a friend to emergency room for surgery. Noticed the open containers in the front cab from the night before. He sais put those in the back and I never saw em and he even asked if we needed an escort up the highway. No not a prostitute. While working in California, went on a biz trip to a company in Alabama and ate and drank with them, while ignoring my Cali coworkers.

I had forgotten good people exist, I thought they went extinct but they just weren't dumb enough to get stationed in Cali.

We laughed at the Cali guys while they pulled assault rifles from their trunk in the parking lot to show me. The difference in reaction was not only palpable, but to a southern boy, damn funny.

I'm pretty sure it's the reason I quit and moved.

I have used this to destroy many 'gun control' nit wits. In the 70s we all had our firearms in our cars, AT School, and NO ONE was ever shot. They cry and run away, because they have nothing to combat the truth. The 'firearm' has never committed an act, much less an act of violence.

I remember when this was the norm in school. Students would drive their trucks to school, with their loaded rifles like this, then go hunting when school let out. Hell, we'd go out to see Billy's new rifle during lunch, and we'd all take turns holding/playing with the rifle... And nobody died...
