I remember 88 shoes were very popular in my High School, until someone claimed '88' stood for Heil Hitler (8th letter of the alphabet HH). I had 88 bombers, had to throw them out. They were really cool looking.
Maybe there was so much US and Russian surplus available after the war to make using the 88 uneconomical. Plus making shells and barrels/spare parts is difficult for smaller countries. Small arms were pretty much the limit for countries without a big industrial base. Recoiless weapons are easier to lug around too.
Thanks Rhino. Good point.
I have been found out, even with the misspelling. Does the Cactus Air Force collect AA guns?
Not any longer. Would have been a huge help to have had some As you well know...
