Previously on 18 July 1290, King Edward I had expelled all jews from England. The Edict of Expulsion was a reaction from usury, which jews didn’t learn from as they continued to be expelled around Europe.

Look at the history of Europe, the Jews got kicked out and ejected from nearly every country in Europe. But they managed to eventually crawl back in centuries later.
