The Memoirs of the Conquistador Bernal Diaz del Castillo is available on Kindle for free to Amazon Prime members. Castillo was an officer with Cortez. Cannibalism was wide spread in Mexico. Small villages even partially paid taxes to Montezuma in humans who were fattened up, sacrificed, and their arms and legs were eaten. Their skulls were ornaments on step pyramids. Cortez forbade the practice by force of arms and established Christianity.
