I do not like the stereotype of elves being feminine. Tolkien made elves to represent the art and craftsmenship found in men. A different face to masculinity not often showed in media. After all all the great paintings, structures, statues, songs, instruments, is all made by men. Men do like having good looking things around them.

They tend to look androgynous, no facial hair, slender rather than buff, long hair, but they don't really act feminine, just high-class/ civil/ polite/ snobbish. I am not sure where the feminine association comes from, but I think Elves were always linked with Woodland Nymphs.
