I think that it's not so much that they don't understand anime. I believe it's more that they both hate their customers while narcissistically loving themselves above all else. This show was never made for their fans, because they have no fans. Nor was it made for their anime fan customers, because they hate anime fans, and maybe even hate anime. They made this purely for themselves, and if you don't love it as much as they do then you're just a nazi white supremacist incel manbaby.
