If the guy had slapped her, that would have been what she likely really wanted. She wanted drama with her man, she wanted boundaries from her man, and if he had given her the Ronald Reagan treatment--slapped her so hard that the other side of her face hurt--then this problem could have been solved.
There's a scene in the oft-mocked movie The Chronicles of Riddick wherein the power-hungry wife of Karl Urban's character is nagging him intensely and he gets tired of it and slaps her across the room. She looks up, says "Finally, some attention!" and then proceeds to shut her nagging mouth and jumps his bones.
Pretty much "Truth in Television" right there, surprisingly.
